CREATOR CAMP FAQ

IS MY CHILD THE APPROPRIATE AGE FOR THIS CAMP?

Creator Camp can be enjoyed by kids of all ages, but the virtual content and activities are most appropriate for those 5-12.

Kids participating in optional “cabins” will be grouped together by age and grade level with activities geared specifically toward that age group.

HOW IS RANDOM HOUSE CHILDREN’S BOOKS INVOLVED?

This is Story Pirates second year partnering with Random House Children’s Books to present Creator Camp. Each week of camp will feature three different Random House Children’s Books authors or illustrators. These very special guests will make virtual visits during our camp livestreams where they’ll interact with campers, share behind the scenes details about their books, answer questions and some illustrators even do some live drawing!

Each week of camp also includes a book bundle with a featured title from each of the authors visiting camp that week. Book bundles are included in the cost of registration.

WHAT LEVEL OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IS REQUIRED?

The level of parental involvement depends on the age and ability of your child. As part of the interactive livestreams, the Story Pirates may ask kids to type comments or suggestions into a web form. If your child is unable to type on their own, a grownup may be needed to help them.

Parents may also need to facilitate transitions between activities, additionally, during some activities, grownups may need to help kids get set up with paper, pens, tape, etc. We will provide a detailed schedule for each week and a list of suggested supplies so parents can prepare in advance.

HOW MUCH SCREEN TIME IS INVOLVED?

Each day of Creator Camp (M,W,F) consists of a 90 minute Livestream with an optional 60 minute Cabin add on that takes place before the Livestream session.

The full Creator Camp experience of Cabin + Livestream is 2 ½ hours. There will be short breaks throughout Camp for kids to step away from the screen, eat a snack, and move their feet.

WHAT ARE CABINS?

Families who want their kids to have more interaction with fellow campers, or are just looking to extend the Story Pirates fun can choose to add a virtual “cabins” before the main Camp Livestream. Cabins are small group sessions led by Story Pirates’ expert teaching artists, hosted privately via Zoom to allow kids to engage with each other as a small group and participate in creative writing, improv, and imaginary play activities that tie in to the main Livestream and/or virtual author visits.

HOW MANY KIDS ARE IN A CABIN?

There will be no more than 15 kids in a cabin grouped by age. At certain points during cabin time, the larger group will be broken into smaller groups. All cabins and breakout groups are under the supervision of Story Pirates’ teaching artists.

CAN I REQUEST MY CAMPER TO BE IN A CERTAIN CABIN?

We are always happy to take requests for grouping friends or family members together! Have them sign up for the same camp and cabin slot, then contact us here

Please note that we may not always be able to accommodate every special request we receive.

WHAT SUPPLIES ARE NEEDED FOR CAMP?

Every camp activity can be done with a blank piece of paper and a pencil, marker, or pen!

I LIVE OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES, CAN MY FAMILY REGISTER FOR CAMP?

We love our fans from all over the world and encourage everyone to participate in Creator Camp!

Please note that the Book Bundles can only be sent within the US. If you are an international family looking to register contact us here for either an international discount code or to receive a partial refund on your camp registration.

WHAT IS THE CREATOR CAMP REFUND POLICY?

Cancellations requested at least two weeks before the start date of the camp will receive a full refund.

Cancellations requested at least one week before the start date of camp will receive a 50% refund. If your family’s book bundle has already been sent at the time of the cancellation request, your 50% refund will be less the cost of a $10 administrative fee.

Cancellations requested within 7 days of the start of camp are not eligible for a refund but a credit will be issued that can be used towards future camp registrations.

No credits or refunds will be given once a camp session starts.

All cancellation requests must be sent via email to CreatorCamp@storypirates.org

CAN I SWITCH TO ANOTHER SESSION AFTER I PURCHASE?

We know that schedules change and we will do our best to offer you a spot in another week if you need to switch sessions. Please note there will be a $10 administration fee to switch weeks and we may not be able to change the book bundle your family receives if the change is requested after your book bundle has shipped.

All session change requests must be sent via email to CreatorCamp@storypirates.org

DO I GET A CREATOR CLUB DISCOUNT?

Discounts are ONLY available for premium members. To upgrade your Creator Club membership and receive your discount code, click here.

If you’re already a premium member, email us here if you missed your discount code.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER EACH OF MY CHILDREN SEPARATELY?

Only one camp registration is required per family to attend the livestreams on M, W, F. However, because we are striving to give each child who participates in our small-group cabins an individual experience (even if they have siblings in the camp and are sharing a screen), families must purchase a cabin add-on for each child who will be participating.

WHAT IS YOUR PRIVACY POLICY?

Story Pirates will be taking all reasonable measures to preserve your privacy and the privacy of your children. Story Pirates are enacting these virtual learning environments in compliance with recommendations of Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Creator Camp cabins will include a group feature with participation by multiple kids. For the purposes of Creator Camp, Story Pirates has disabled specific features within Zoom to ensure the safety and privacy of kids. All Zoom sessions are password protected and campers must be admitted by Story Pirates staff.
